Vieux Carré

In Vieux Carré, a young writer holes up in a boarding house in New Orleans’ French Quarter (the vieux carré), where he encounters Mrs. Wire, the house’s eccentric landlady, the young and desperate Jane, Tye, her drug-addled, strip-show barker boyfriend, and a painter named Nightingale who is dying of tuberculosis, though fiercely denying it to himself.

This forgotten classic, considered to be one of Williams’ most autobiographical plays, was presented in Los Angeles for the first time in ten years, at the Ivy Substation. The project was made possible, in part, by a grant from the City of Culver City Art in Public Places Fund.
