HOW IT WORKS PRELIMINARY ROUND Actors who are interested in auditioning should bring a copy of their worst headshot and sign up in the lobby. At 8:30, all the contestants will be brought on stage at the same time for a group performance. From the group performance, and based on the headshots, 24 actors (8 men, 8 women, and 8 more of either gender) will be selected to compete for the starring roles. Everyone else is invited to watch from the audience. Actor selections will be made at the seemingly arbitrary discretion of the "Casting Panel" made up of the "Casting Director," "The Director" and "The Producer." The audience will be privvy to all deliberations by the panel. ROUND 1 The 24 chosen actors will be divided up into 8 teams of 3. The 8 teams will be given several short scenes to choose from. After 10 minutes of preparation, the teams will perform their chosen scene for the Casting Panel and the audience. After each scene, the casting panel will give their feedback to point out the strengths and weaknesses of the performance. At the end of Round 1, the Casting Panel will deliberate openly, for all to hear, and will choose 4 of the teams to proceed to the next round. ROUND 2 The remaining 12 actors will be divided up into 4 new teams and will be given a new 2 minute scene to perform. The Casting Panel will once again give feedback, this time focusing more on individual performances. At the end of the round, the Casting Panel will deliberate openly and choose their 2 favorite actors for each role (for a total of 6 finalists). FINAL ROUND The 6 remaining actors will each be given a short monologue which they must perform for the panel and the audience. After all monologues have been delivered, the two actors competing for the same role will be brought before the Casting Panel and asked to explain why they feel they are better than the other person for the part. The Casting Panel will then ask the audience to choose, by way of applause, which of the two actors should get the part. This is repeated for each of the roles until the final cast has been chosen. From the final cast, a grand prize winner will be chosen. PRIZES The three actors chosen for the roles will receive gift certificates to local businesses. The grand prize winner will receive $100 in cash. Other prizes will most likely be offered to other contestants. Check back soon for exact details on prizes. JUDGING CRITERIA Performances will be judged on how much creativity and humor an actor "brings to the role." The scenes will be somewhat non-specific and will open to interpretation. However, decisions will ultimately be made at the whims of the Casting Panel, and ultimately, by the audience. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN HANK: Leading Man. Any age. Any ethnicity. MIMI: Leading Lady.
